Frequently asked questions
What formula does this use?
Required final score = (target grade − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight. With a current grade of 85%, a final worth 30% and a target of 90%, you need (90 − 85 × 0.7) ÷ 0.3 = 101.7%.
What if I need more than 100%?
Then the target is out of reach unless there is extra credit or a curve. Try a lower target to see what grade is still possible.
Where do I find the final exam weight?
It is listed in the course syllabus, often as a percentage such as 'Final exam: 25%'. If the syllabus uses points, divide the final's points by the total course points.
