How the calculation works
Each time is converted to minutes after midnight. The difference, minus any break, is the time worked. If the end is earlier than the start, 24 hours are added, so 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM counts as 8 hours. For several days at once, use the time card calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate hours between two times?
Subtract the start time from the end time. From 9:15 AM to 5:45 PM is 8 hours 30 minutes. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator assumes the shift ends the next day.
How do I convert hours and minutes to decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60 and add them to the hours. 8 hours 30 minutes = 8 + 30/60 = 8.5 hours. 7 hours 45 minutes = 7.75 hours.
How are unpaid breaks handled?
Enter the break length in minutes. It is subtracted from the total time between the two clock times.
